Hi, I recently re-installed Windows Vista on my laptop. Its Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I go to update it, and there's 77 new updates. Whenever I download and install them, it won't turn back on when it restarts. It has the windows loading screen for maybe 2 seconds, then it blue screens. It won't restart then until I do a system restore, but then when I update it happens again. If anyone can help me with this I'd really appreciate it.

any specific blue screen like any error message on the screen ?

Well it flashes by really fast. I realize now that I can make it so it doesn't automatically restart, but I didn't do that last time. If it comes down to it I can install the updates again and record the message.

we just need any one error message, which pop ups on the screen.

When I get the blue screen, it says that the hard drive can be corrupted, and to use chkdsk /f. I did that and it brought up no problems. At the bottom of the blue screen, under Technical Information it says STOP: 0x0000007B (0x80403BA0 0xC0000034 0x00000000 0x00000000)

If you need any other information, just ask.

Hey there...

Got a 2nd hand laptop (dell inspiron 1520) last weekend and just wiped the drive to reinstall vista home basic 32bit. experiencing the exact same problem.

Installed Vista just fine and can use it. Checking for windows updates, there are 77 in total, which amounts to almost 300mb. After downloading and installing I am asked to reboot the system. It pretends to boot windows for a second (this running bar in the centre of the screen at bottom) then there is a flash of a bluescreen for no more than a second and the screen turns black.

Around 5 seconds or so later the laptop restarts and comes up with the safety modes. No matter which one I use windows will do the exact same thing. Tried booting the system with the windows cd in it and using the repair function, it then says that windows cannot repair with this function.

I can then roll back the 77 updates and the system will work again.

If there's any help out there I'd be more than happy to receive it. I keep sensitive work data on this laptop and feel uneasy without any updates or protection.

I actually finally figured out how to fix it myself. I just installed Vista Service Pack 1 and it allowed me to install all the other updates fine. Hope this helps you.

Uhhh thank you for this instant and most helpful reply!
Still massively scared, downloaded the Service Pack 1 and installed it, and it still works!!!! It has also cut the available downloads to 44, which I have now downloaded but I haven't dared to install the 44 yet and see if it still works afterwards. I think I'll sleep a night on it and try tomorrow :)

But thanks a million!

Now that you have SP1, SP2 is availible for download, be patient while installing.
