Can't Start Windows

Hello!

I just installed the latest version of VMware Workstation on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit, whereupon I rebooted as instructed by the installation application. But Windows wouldn't start. After the Windows loading screen, a bluescreen pops up. But the bluescreen only stays for about 0.2 seconds - too short for me to read - before it reboots.

The Startup Repair tool on the Vista DVD makes different numbers of attempting to repair each time I run it, but it always gives one of the following two results:

Root cause found:
-------------
A patch is preventing the system from starting.

Repair action: System files integrity check and repair.
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x2

Root cause found:
-------------
Boot status indicates that the OS booted successfully.

I do not have any system restore points. Windows won't start in safe mode either. I can, however access the command line from the DVD boot.

Yes, I searched for solutions, but people in other forums just ended up with reinstalling Windows.

However, I got it solved! I unplugged all other HDDs, including the USB ones, except for the system drive, and I could start Windows again. I then tried starting with one HDD unplugged until I found the one causing the trouble. I could not figure out what was wrong with the HDD, if anything, so I just uninstalled VMware, and now it all works perfectly, like before - with all HDDs plugged in.

I also uninstalled Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 together with VMware. Yesterday, I had created a virtual machine that I couldn't get to work, so I just deleted the virtual machine files that were stored on the HDD in question. Don't know if it's relevant though.
