Can't play sound from more than one source!

Hey there,

A few months ago, my computer went a bit stupid. It suddenly stopped playing any sounds at all. I re-started the Windows Audio service, which fixed it, but now it will only play sound from one source. For isntance, it will play music from Windows Media Player, but not from anything on Firefox (no sound and the videos are jumpy) and vice versa. Only one program at a time is given sound.

I thought perhaps it was just Firefox or something, but no. I tried Internet Explorer and Zune. However, If I was to finish the song on Zune, and then try and play sound on Firefox, it works. It just can't play them both at the same time.

It's very confusing and annoying.

Can anyone help? I did a Malware and Virus scan, and found nothing, and I've cleaned registry and hard drive, etc. and fixed any problems, but it's done nothing!

do you have the media player plugin's for Firefox?
What registry problems did you fix, and how did you fix them?

I do, but it's not only Firefox, it's anything!

I can't remember, I've done a lot since. It was mainly invalid files, shortcuts, etc. but this was all after the thing went a bit haywire.

you might like to check what options are checked in the advanced properties box for you speakers. go to control panel ,sound, right click on the speaker go to properties, advanced, see if the allow applications to control this device is checked.

Checked, and it's updated fully already. :(

I checked that out a couple of days ago, and it was ticked. I un-ticked it, but it hasn't made any difference. :(
