Can't log in to my vista x64 after I undo recovery...

Well to start af this happened a few months back...
I did a system recovery wich didn't work out the way I wanted... So I wanted to undo this by following the procedures that vista gave me...

Now what happens... system starts up, I have only the function to log-on with another user... I click on the image box... They ask me to enter my username and password... and this is the place where I get stuck :(
I tryed everything I can think of... tryed a pass reset but that didn't help... (no password on my administrator or guest)...
This is the strange error I get while trying to login:
Het opgegeven domein bestaat niet of kan geen contact maken met dit domein... (in dutch)
Translated... The specified domain does not exist or can not make contact with this domain...

Please help me out with this!

Best regards,
Gydé Joost

-Administrator
-Guest
While I normally login under Neux
+ both users have no password attached to it :s I cleared them...

Hi & welcome vt4tje,

From the information you have already provided: -

I would ask, what caused you to do the restore in the first place? This could be an indication of the problem & how to address it.

Unless the system was installed in Dutch, the fact that it is now addressing you in a "None standard language" is a strong indication of something is very wrong!

Please post more information on all the issues you have experienced that have lead you to where you are now & then we can formulate a plan to recover/ regain control of your system.

Laika,

Could you please start another thread as this one is owned by vt4tje.

This will prevent confusion as we post questions & get replies as we need to address one issue in this thread & yours as a separate issue in another thread.

Hi,

Was the PC on a domain to start with?

Do you have the capability to boot into another CD based operating system (To view the user files & folders on your HDD) this will tell you if your user files etc. still exist.
Note: -
If you have been infected by something please do not connect your HDD to another PC. This is to prevent further cross infection.

If the user & user files etc. are not there your only choice would be to recover the system to factory standard issue (Day one).

Now, having said that, what are your thoughts?

I don't mind the recovery to day one... but not really sure how to check my files... is it possible to do this with linux? i have an ubuntu cd here somewhere...?

My Computer

Hi again,

Ubuntu should work.

I would suggest that you look for the files & users on the system. If you are clear about the results, go straight into the recovery process.

Just my observation , but a lot of malicious virus when they get into your computer they attack your Registry files in such a manner, as to make an entry in the registry, which at least at your next reboot, it(malicious virus) gets to run it’s own software and not allow the real windows software to start....

Now to correct this one has to get into the Registry file and delete this virus entry..
You have to be able to run (regedit) either at command prompt c:\....... regedit.exe OR
If you have a start button do Start-All Programs-accessories-run-(regedit)-Ok
Now navigate as follows and delete suspicious entries.. and than reboot..

the following is the way to see unwanted start up processes....deleting is simply right clicking on the item, and select delete option

Run regedit

and navigate down as shown

HKey-local-machine
Software
Microsoft
Windows
Current Version
Run

And / or

HKey-current-user

Software
Microsoft
Windows
Current Version
Run

Hi,

I think your best bet is to contact DELL direct & obtain the recovery disks for your system.
