Can't install Windows

Hi, I recently made an upgrade to my Desktop so I reformated the hdd but now I have a problem, I tried to install Windows Vista Business but it gives me this error: The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all file required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070017. This happened with Vista home premium also (both are in the same installation disc). Then I tried to install Vista Enterprise and it gave me the error: Status:0xc00000e9 Info: An unespected I/O error has ocurred. And finally when trying to instal Windows XP it appears to make the installation (copying and expanding files) but when it restarts to then continue the installation, appeared some little color rectangles in my monitor and there it froze.

I was thinking maybe the hdd was damages but Ubuntu installed without problem so I have no idea of what is going on.

hello, and welcome to the forums

first of all try using this little utility
Darik's Boot And Nuke | Hard Drive Disk Wipe
look around the site then download the version that best suits you and use it
it completely format the hdd.
next try vista install again if it gives the sam error, try another vista install disk if you can get one.
or just try the xp one again
