Can't install my drivers

Windows keeps telling me it has to install drivers for my wireless mouse, keyboard, usb audio interface, spdif interface, and virtual dvd drives. In the case of the keyboard, mouse, and optical audio interface, the devices work fine until I try and install a driver, and then if i do, they never work on that usb port again -_-. Ive tried telling windows to look in c:\windows, but then windows finds a driver, and it doesnt install, and it says "file not found". When I download drivers straight from the manufacturers site, they tell me my system doesnt meet the minimum requirements. This is really piddling me off, and I don't feel like reinstalling the OS because Id need to transfer a few hundred gigs back and forth between my computer and a backup drive. Eventually, I'm upgrading to windows seven, but in the meantime, how the hell can I get my stuff working again?
