Can't connect with IE

When I go to a site using IE (e.g. google) it just hangs forever and says "Connecting to site 64.233.16" in the status bar. I am able to connect via firefox and email just fine. It's only IE that doesn't work. I am on HP Pavilion AMD Vista 64.

This happened before and the problem resolved after a reboot. But then it happened again.

Got it working: went into Internet Options - Connections - Setup - Use existing connection. The problem went away. I wonder if this will happen again and if there's a permanent fix.
