Can't change my boot disc to C:

God Vista is making my life hell, my apologies for all the posts I've been making but I swear those Apple commercials have it right... Bake sale anyone?

I did a Vista installation on what used to be my F: drive. Now that it's my boot disc, I want it to be my C: drive but Vista won't let me change the drive letter since it's my boot disc, is there any way around this? I have disconnected all my other hard drives so C: is not in use. Unfortunately Vista does not want to reletter my boot drive so I'm stuck with F:, any ideas?

As a side note, I tried to take a printscreen of my problem but Vista doesn't seem to want to do that in any simple fashion either. A search of the web confirms that this isn't necessarily as easy as it should be. I know I've seen others post printscreens on this forum so any words on this secondary problem would be appreciated.

Firsdt it isn't a "Vista" problem. Hope you realize that changing the boot disk drive letter isn't as simple as going to Disk Management and just changing it. This is one wya for doing it in XP,

All things considering, you want to change the drive letter, reformat and re-install. Be much easier in the long run.

As for screen shots,

1. Hit the Print Screen
2. Open Paint and hit Ctrl+V
3. Click on File and select Save, give it a name and save it wherever you want (default is the Pictures folder).

Thanks for your reply. I have no idea why printscreen didn't work for me before but I tried again using your advice and it was right on.

I was trying to change the drive letter using the disk management tool as you correctly guessed. After further thought, other than my boot disc has always been c:, does it really matter what I label it? Everything seems to be working well right now, even my Xbox360 media extender seems to be happy with it's current location. You mentioned c: as my boot drive being easier in the long run, are you referring to the fact that most programs will try to default install to c:, or something else?

By easier in the long run I meant trying to change it.

As for F:\ being the boot drive, as you can see it isn't much of a problem. About the only problem you might run into is the odd program that insists on installing to C. If you come across one of those you can either let it install to C (assuming you still have a C drive), or just select custom install and change it to the correct drive letter.

P.S. Don't forget you can also hold the Alt key at the same time as hitting Print Screen if what you want to take the screen shot of is smaller than full screen (only captures the window in front, instead of the entire desktop).
