Can't access folder on external HD

OK,

My laptop MB died. I need files off of the HD. I bought a USB to SATA adapter and hooked it up. I can now access the HD by USB. It is now the F drive

But here is the problem. I cannot access the user account that the files I need are under.

I can access the Default and Public user files, but not the User file Lisa which was my wifes. The Laptop had a password to login, which I know.

When I try to access the folder it says You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to get access to this folder.

I click continue, Windows needs permission to continue so I click that. But then nothing happens. The green bar goes across the top of the F drive but nothing ever happens.

My PC and the Laptop were Windows Home basic 32bit.

Wish I could say what I did. I had tried messing with permissions before posting this request for help. I then tried access the folder from my wife's login on the PC as the name and password were the same fro the PC as the Laptop. I then went back to my own login and I can now access the files.

So whatever I did it worked, I just don't know what I did!
