Canon S9000 printer problem

I have a new computer with Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I tried to add my canon s9000 printer that is connected to another computer on my network with windows 2000P. It said I had the wrong driver. I tried to download and install the correct driver, but to no avail yet. Anybody had a similar issue?
I connected that same printer directly to a USB port on my vista 64 machine and it worked just fine, but I had issues trying to find that printer from the other machines.
Ultimately, I will migrate over to the Vista machine as my workhorse. Do you think it best that I simply connect the printer to the new machine and try to add the printer to the other, older computers?

Hi -

I had the same problem with a cannon I550 and I ended up blaming Vista for the problems, went through the same thing as you when printer connected directly np, just when remote connected. I think there is a fix for this but I never bothered with it, I just connected directly.
My thoughts now are to upgrade to win 7 as this has been fixed.

On Windows XP, follow the steps below to share the printer.
1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
3. In the Printers and Faxes folder, click the printer's icon and, in the tasks pane, choose Share This Printer.
4. Open the printer's Properties dialog box, and clicked on the Sharing tab.
5. Click Share Name, type a name as Share Name and then clicked OK.
On Windows Vista, follow the steps below to add the printer.
1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Printers.
2. On Keyboard press Alt, then click File->Run as administrator->Add Printer.
When UAC window pops up, click Continue to go on.
3. Select "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
4. Directly select "The printer that I want isn't listed.
5. Choose "Select a shared printer by name", in the box, type the following address.
\\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer]
Then click Next.
Note: if there is any space exists in the Share Name, we have to quote the name in the address as following.
\\[IP address of the host computer]\”[The Share Name of the printer]”
6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation.
Also check the firewall settings on both computers if the issue is not resolved.
