Cannot use USB flash drive.

I purchased a Lexar USB flash drive (8gb). The drive works well in XP, but will not work in Vista.

Vista will recognize the drive and attempt to install the drivers. Nothing I do will get the drivers to install properly.

The manufacturers web site does not have drivers for Vista. I have even chatted with their online support and they tell me the problem is with the Windows drivers.

I have searched all sorts of forums on the Microsoft site and many third party sites. I have tried everything that is suggested and nothing works.

In device manager, the drive appears under "Other Devices/USB Flash Drive"
Device status is: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

Reinstall just takes me through the process all over again and nothing works.

I have uninstalled it so many times, I can't count them.

I have uninstalled the USB ports.

I have tried the drive in all three USB ports.

I have tried replacing the file c:\windows\inf\usbstor.inf.

I have used my system restore utility to restore the drivers to their original state.

I have uninstalled any unnecessary programs.

There are no updates to be installed from Windows Update.

There are no updates to be installed from HP.

I have other USB flash drives (1 GB, 4 GB) that work just fine on this machine.

Screen shots of all my error messages are attached in PDF.

Can anyone help?
