Cannot send emails error 10060

I am using Eudora 7.1.0.9. I have three email accounts. I can send emails from all three using Eudora as a client. When Eudora tries to send emails, I get errors. Here is the error I get for Yahoo. The other two are the same, only the names change:

Yahoo, Contacting plus.smtp.mail.yahoo4.ak.adns.net [98.136.44.53] [12:19 AM]
Could not connect to: "plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" Cause: connection timed out (10060)

I have looked all over the place for a solution...no joy
Any help here?

It isn't a Yahoo problem. I have 3 email accounts. One with Yahoo, two with Hughes. All three accounts are doing the same thing. I tried setting up another email account within Eudora. It would have been a Hughes account. The set up process includes a test of the server. Got the same message that was in my original message. Just change Yahoo to Hughes. It is a time-out problem with my email client, I think.

Did it work before? Have you changed ISPs? Are there any recent Windows Updates that might be interfering?

The last update was on 7-10-08 and it was a security update.
I have moved to another location and am using a different WiFi connection.
Now I am getting Connection refused [10061] messages.

too many variables - if you could try to old WiFi location then we could establish if it is the WiFi or not - if it doesn't work at your old location then it is quite possibly the update....

I am traveling in Canada and am a couple hundred miles away from last night's location, never to return.
The one constant is that my outgoing emails are being rejected by both Hughes and Yahoo. This constant condition also includes my not being able to set up a new "child" email account under my "dominant" personality. When I try to set up the new email account, I get the same error message as when I try to send emails. The problem is resident with my laptop computer. I am going to now,set up my desktop computer and see what happens.

It could very easily be that the WiFi connection that you are using is through an ISP that blocks outbound connections on port 25 (default SMTP port) that do not go through their own servers.

My ISP does the same.

I'll bet that's it. As I said, I am in a different location and am still having a problem sending emails. I am now getting "Error talking to SMTP server [421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 64.98.36.5 (64.9]"


I can ping the Yahoo and Hughes servers just fine. I can receive emails, but cannot send. I'll bet that last night's ISP and tonight's ISP are one and the same, or they have the same policies.

ha! When you ping the yahoo servers is it the same IP address? If not then that is exactly what is happening - it is redirecting the port 25 SMTP re3quests to its own servers, and poof - you can't communicate with it because you are not an authorized user.
