Cannot See XP Computers

Hello

I am having some trouble in seeing networked XP computers through Vista. I click 'Network' from the start menu, and I don't see any XP computers. The XP and Vista computers are on the same workgroup: MSHOME. When I ping the XP computers from vista, I get a timeout response. I have turned off the firewall service. I can see the Vista computer from XP fine.

Please Help

Thanks

I have XP <=> Vista. It's been awhile since I set it up. But I think I came to the conclusion that the easiest way to go was just to use the Public folder on the Vista machine and the Shared Documents folder on the XP Machine. I have an external hooked up to my Vista machine and I don't have any problem turning on sharing to the folders there so I think the main hassle is the stuff on the XP PC. I turned off fire wall and also all virus protection Windows Defender stuff.

See if this is any help

Nearly, I have the Same problem. I use 4 PC (2 XP and 2 Vista Installed) in my home Network, Both of vista can see each other + 2 other xp and can use shared folders of all PC. but in xp: they can see and use each other and always can ping Vista and even sometimes can see vista pc but never can access to shared folder.
I don't know how I can Resolve this problem. Let me know if you know it's solution

@alibghz iirc the only way I could get shared folders other than the system default shared folders to work, was to set up passworded shared access. pita cuz you have to log in to copy a file. I went back to using the system default shared folders. I just copy in and out of those on each machine. When I do system backup of the XP machine to the external on my Vista PC over the network I just share the backup folder with Everyone giving Co-Owner status. As soon as the backup is done I stop sharing the folder. A kludge but it works for me. :)

If you have to set up password access you might be able to set up some scripts to automate the login using AutoIt or some other scripting language that does macro type stuff.

Hopefully they'll figure out the right way to do all this stuff by the time Windows 7 comes preinstalled on new PCs. :)
