Hola! I got a HP dv6000 and I am having a problemo! Its a newish computer. I bought it nearly new off ebay, and I put vista on it. Vista works and all but it only recognizes the dial up port. The computer has wifi and an ethernet port but it will not detect any network. Does any one know how to work this bad boy?

Hi,

Did you look in device manager and see any yellow exclamation marks ? You probably need Vista drivers.

On my system , Vista loads it's own drivers for pretty much everything - except the Gigalan drivers, which I have to install.

You might see if there are any for download from HP site for your exact model.

Hope it helps

Hi macleo

In addition to SIW2's suggestion you should also check that the network adaptors are enabled at BIOS level. Also with Notebook PCs it is normal to have a switch or key combination to enable wireless network.

Hope this helps

The computer has a switch that says WIRELESS next to it. The light next to it is on either way I flick the switch.

What is device manage and bios?

ok I figure it out. there was a whole bunch of drivers under OTHER with exclamation mark.
I was able to fix most of the driver including internet. But i went to hp web site and it is sayin i have a DV6605us but the label on the screen says DV6000

There are some drivers left and i am using windows to try to find the driver and it says cannot find driver everytime I try it.

Here is a list of the ones not working with yellow exclamaiton mark.

Base system device
Base system device
Coprocessor
Ethernet controller
SM bus controller

So far it appears as if a few drivers were out of data but i fix that so far. it seems to be running decent for a machine with 1gb ram. I just wish i can get ethernet to work, very important to get it working asap

hI macleo,

You may want to run this ...

http://www.vistax64.com/software-tools/176785-vistaforums-sysinfo-tool.html

Once you have all the spec information - you can go to the manufacturer of each component's site and download the latest Vista driver,. The HP site should have drivers for your machine but the actual component manufacturer will have the latest. The same applies for windows update as unfortunately WU tends to lag behind in the driver area.
