Cannot download pdf file from internet

When clicking a link to a downloadable pdf file, the File Download window appears, after selecting Open or Save, the "files go flying" but no status bar appears in the window. Nothing is happening. Any ideas?

Popup blocker is disabled. PDF Helper is enabled.

does this happen only with PDF files?
do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed? (install it)

Yes, and so far just one pdf file from one certain site. I have Adobe Reader 9 installed. I have had no other problems downloading files.

post the link to see if we can open it, maybe it´s just the site.

I don't think I can because it is on a site which requires a user name and password. It is the site of the US Copyright Office. I am told they are receiving complaints of this problem with Vista users. I don't know. I turned off all my security software, with the same result.

have you tried using a different browser, or turning off the user account control(UAC) ?

Interesting. With UAC turned off, I still couldn't download it using IE. But, in Safari, with UAC turned on or off, it downloaded immediately. Wish I'd thought of that. Thanks.
