Today I went to do a Window's Update. The screen came up showing the little circle rotating slowly, the little loading dots(?) movng slowly, and the screen says, do not turn off or unplug computer while updating (attempting). It's hungup. Tried 3 times- same result. Is there something I can do to free it up. I am using an Acer laptop with Vista Basic Home. Thanks in advance!!!

hi neb why dont you try a system restore, it may bring you back to a date before you was having the trouble, it woud'nt hurt,

My Computer
I have had a problem updating windows (in Win 7), as well as Windows Live Mail running very slowly, and eventually concluded that the culprit was likely to be an recent update of System Mechanic Pro. All was running well until that update. Eventually I managed to remove it and then reinstall, (not straight forward) and, as well as SMP working and updating its own virus definitions (which had stopped), I could then update windows and WLM started running properly again. Don't ask me how . Hope that might help some regardless of OS.

I use AVG Anti-Virus. Maybe the problem is related to one of its (AVG) updates because AVG won't update now. I had difficulty uninstalling it. I could not uninstall thru Windows Add/Remove Screen. (had to use AVG uninstaller tool.). I have tried 3 times to reinstall AVG and it won't install. Now, my System Restore isn't working. I think the whole problem is virus related and I may do a whole new reconfig.
