Cannot connect to SBS 2003

I get that message when running my company's "sbspackage.exe" executable which should, in theory, create a VPN connection for me.

Do they need to recompile this exe choosing some 64 bit option? Is this even possible in sbs 2003?

HOW DO I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?

Sounds like the developer who compiled your company's "sbspackage" executable may have made some mistaken assumptions. Most likely the manifest is broken.

The other possibility is that you've trying to run an Itanium (IA-64) package on an AMD64/EM64T (x64) machine, or vice versa. Itaniums are entirely different beasts even though they're also 64-bit.

We don't have an IT department so can you help me know what to do to fix the problem and be able to connect to our 2003 server with a 64-bit system?

If something's wrong with the manifest, it may not be fixable without recoding. Otherwise, if you're running an IA64 package on AMD64, then it's simply a matter of finding the right alternative.

Do any events accompany this error message? (Run EVENTVWR and check for anything that's logged on every instance of the failure.)

Without events, I don't think it's practical to go much further in the "troubleshooting" direction.

I'm guessing that the executable you're running is actually a CMAK (connection manager admin kit) "profile"?

If so, it may be as simple as creating a new package for x64 - if you know the VPN settings which are supposed to go in there. You'll need a Win2008 or Win2003 Server. Go into Add/Remove Programs, "windows components", add the CMAK, and then generate a new CMAK profile with the required settings. If there's anyone around you at the company who knows what the VPN settings should be, that approach may give you what you need within half an hour.

EDIT: I forgot to highlight a crucial bit of info. If you're going to be creating a new CMAK package, the server in question must be running an x64 build of win2k3/win2k8.
