Hi there!

I too recently bought a Gateway MD2614u, I use a 3g modem, a huawei e 156 c to be specific!

I've had some browser problems, the last couple of days, except for today, but still!

When I go to network and sharing, view status, diagnose: Cannot connect to DNS server
> 200.223.0.83
Server: ns7.telemar.net.br
Address: 200.223.0.83

> ping 200.223.0.83
Server: [200.223.0.83]
Address: 200.223.0.83

> nslookup

To me this is all nonsens, does anyone have the guts to help me out
(out the window, hehe, AND STAY OUT)

Thank you!

I agree with Wallyinnc. You could possibly try switching to openDNS - But i'm not so sure that would even resolve your issue.

A ping might not always respond, I find that alot of DNS servers have ICMP disabled, so they don't respond to pings. I'd contact your ISP first and see what the deal is.

Oh no I'm not Brasileiro, I am (sou um) Principe encantado Dinamarques, rsrsrs, any way do you mean to say that, if it doesnt ping, that doesnt have to say nothing? Because I havent had any problems with browsing or DL'ing (making a new test now, diagnose) still the same thing: Cannot communicate with DNS server (200.223.0.83)
Also there is the sent and the received packages, sent continues the same 0 (zero) errors, but received went from 121 errors yesterday, to 1 (one) error today!

So yea its probably the phone company, it is Brasil after all anyway, hehe(rsrsrs)

E aí amigo beleza?

If you think that another DNS could benefit me, please release fire, I'd appreciate some more speed, please only brazilian servers (I think, cuz I really dont have a clue)

Imagine a person like me (gringo), not knowing anything about computers and even less about
internet connections, trying to resolve a problem with a brazilian phone company!

I would be like trying to open a door with the wrong key.
(I do know a little about Lockpicking, though!)

LOL... I don't envy you, I don't live there anymore, but I do not miss the type of service they used to give. Unfortunately I can't offer advice on another one.

I am in doubt about your problem. You can browse and download well. When do you have the "Cannot communicate with DNS server"? Only when you ping? If it is that, it shouldn't be a problem, possibly DNS is not activated as uid0 explained. What do you get with an "ipconfig/all"?
