cannot boot HDD via SATA

I have strange issue...

I cannot boot a drive when connected to the SATA port, however if I use a SATA to USB adapter I CAN boot the drive OK.

When I boot connected to SATA the POST freezes on the drive detection and hangs..

The SATA port and cable are tested and known to work on other bootable drive

Any ideas what is going on? IS the HDD faulty?

It sounds like your operating system doesn't have the driver to support SATA connections. Can it run in IDE mode? Maybe the Motherboard has a problem with the HDD.

Access the BIOS and see if it will work.

NAH... this HDD was previously working on this system... and othere HDD of same type are running just fine.

It all started when I fritzed the boots ector and since I have repaired the boot sector it will only boot via a USB-SATA adapter.

I cannot get into BIOS when the drive is attached to the MoBo via SATA as the POST halts at detecting drives...

I'm just about to clear my CMOS again and do a fresh flash of the BIOS to make sure it's not a BIOS or CMOS issue

Does the other HDD work in their on SATA? Try that first to make sure it is the BIOS that is the problem.

Check the jumpers. Make sure enough power is getting through to your hard drive from the psu.

There are no jumpers on the HDD and never have been... I have reflashed the BIOS and cleared CMOS by removing battery and shorting the CLR pins to be certain.

This has not helped...

I am able to use the SATA port with other drives OK too.

This is what I see when I boot with the problematic HDD on SATA port 3. If I put it on any other port (I have 8) it halts at that point...

So I managed to resolve the problem

Not entirely sure what did it... I fired Gparted Live CD and poked around but did not make any changes nor find any obvious issues. I then booted Windows and ran Paragon partition Manager 10 and looked at the EFI partition and then ran a surface test and checked file integrity. neither posted any errors.

I then shut down, connected via SATA and rebooted system, to my amazement it passed POST and booted OK

Was it something that Paragon did it?? Or was it just a lucky reboot that resolved the issue?? Or perhaps I just managed to hold my tongue in the right place..

Kinda bummed out that I don't KNOW what caused/fixed my issue but I AM happy it is resolved
