If you have purchased Vista Ultimate 64bit and dont like it?

I love vista, but my father recently got Vista Ultimate 64bit, and hates it, im wondering does MS allow a "Backwards Upgrade"? or whatever it is called....

I believe some retailers had an arrangement where a customer could choose to have XP rather than Vista, but I know for a fact that there is no downgrade path. Only a format and and fresh installation of XP. Back up the files and folders he needs to keep first obviously.

Why XP64 and not the 32 bit? I tried XP64 and found it very hard to get drivers... this was a long time ago though so finding drivers could be as easy as finding them for vista.

You just need any version of XP for that to work. It doesnt matter what the XP disc is. But anyway why would he want to this as XP sucks :p

Have you considered changing to the old menus and classic windows themes, turning off Areo, etc, or is he against Vista on principle. You can definitely make vista look like older windows with a little work while maintaining the vista system under the covers. You can even re-enable the classic menu's in Microsoft office to make it more usable to people who don't want to learn the ribbon.

Good luck - 64-bit XP never took off because a) it was so expensive and b) noone could find the right drivers for a lot of things, plus a lot of software/hardware failed to work properly.

Far better have him wait for the 64-bit part until Windows 7 is final.

Personally anyone who says they hate Vista, I tell them to take a pill and get over it, as it really is a wonderful system.
But from all accounts Windows 7 will be a lot more friendly. In any case XP will no longer be supported after 2014. (I think that's the cutoff).
