I have Vista Home Premium x64 installed but my motherboard crashed. I am replacing the motherboard, but I know Vista will not boot with the new board and I do not have the Vista upgrade discs to try and solve it. If I buy Windows 8 Upgrade, and do a clean install, will the system recognize the Vista installation and allow the upgrade to work? Since I cannot boot up, and therefore cannot access the internet, I know I will have to buy the discs to upgrade to 8, but figured this would be relatively cheap if the upgrade works.
When the motherboard crashed, I took the hard disc out and put it into another machine and it checked out fine. It would not boot on the other machine either, again because it obviously did not recognize the motherboard.
