BURNER NOT FOUND in Windows DVD Maker

I am having problems with my Windows DVD Maker - although i have successfully burnt a dvd in it before - now it comes up with 'burner not found' - even tho i can use another program and burn dvds on that - so i know my burner is working!
Windows dvd maker just wont reconise it.
I have tried alot of different things to fix it - taken off lower and upper things and downloaded auto-fix things but nothing has worked!!!

all i want is for it to work...

Hopefully someone can help me - please.

Thank you
stef

This is just a question, but do you have more than one DVD burner installed?

Does any of this help?

  1. If you have more than one DVD burner installed on your computer, on the Add pictures and video to the DVD page, select the DVD burner that you want to use from the DVD burner list.
  2. If you want to set different options for your DVD, click Options. For information about the different options you can specify when burning a DVD, see Change DVD-Video settings.
  3. Click the Disc title box, and then type a title for the DVD.

What other program are you using to burn DVDs with? Perhaps that program is causing a problem for Windows DVD Maker.

Hi,

I know this is an older thread but I had the same problem and I found that if I unplugged my USB modem and restarted DVD Maker the drive was there.

Hope this helps if anyone is still having problems.

I too know this is an old thread, but the message I get when I click on the DVD burner in the Device manager is:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

When I check for solutions, I get none.

I appreciate any information anyone can provide on this.

I've ran all the uninstall/reinstall that it has suggested, but I will see if doing it that way makes a difference. I'll repost after lunch how it works out. Thanks for replying on such an old thread :)

In device manager see what burner you have and get the latest driver from the manufacture.
Download it to your desktop and then return to device manager and update the driver.
When it asks do you want to go on line or browse your computer say browse and go to the downloaded driver file

I downloaded the most current drivers from the Dell website manually (and they seem to be the same ones the computer found). When I try to reinstall that driver, it says it cannot find the drive itself...GRR. What gives?

I've tried all this, and short of taking the drive OUT of the computer to check, I think it may be the drive itself....? Do you know of anything in particular I should look for if I go that route?
