Bsod

Hi there.

I keep getting a BSOD when I try to shut down my Dell XPS M1330 with VIsta Business Premium. I get a Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error, STOP: 0x0000007A.

I have run chkdisk several time without finding anything wrong.

Any ideas?

Hi erlendgram, welcome to the board.

The stop error is often related to memory; so I would suggest run a test on the rams with memtest to eliminate the possibility of bad rams. If convenient, try on stick at a time.

If rams are not at fault, try to restore system to an earlier restore point before problems occurred or a complete system restore to the original manufacturer state if necessary. This would eliminate any conflicting programs, virus or corrupted elements.

I suggest back up your important data before any restore attempts. Report back.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bruce2,

Thanks for your answer. I ran memtest in several installments - nothing came up. I tried running checkdisk again, but nothing registered there either.

When I tried to do a complete backup, however, I got a backup failure message (I/O unit error), probably because of faulty communications with my Maxtor 640 GB external drive.

So, since I have earlier tried a fix for this last problem, I don't have a restore point.... Which leaves me stumped....

Hi erlendgram, I believe your laptop didn't come with any reinstallation OS disk otherwise you may try repair with that disk. To this point, seems to me a complete system restore is what you stuck with. Try to backup just the data instead with the Maxtor to see if it works.

Don't feel bad; doesn't it always everything goes wrong all at once for every one?

Let us know how things go.

Bruce

Thanks again,

Just to be clear - do you think this is a system issue, rather than a failing drive? There is nothing to indicate the latter if I am to believe the chkdisk results.

My Computer

For failing drive, the BSOD will occur randomly not just when you shut down.
