BSOD During World of Warcraft!! Help!

Hey folks,

I'm getting the ever-popular "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from the timeout failed" BSOD. It only happens when I'm playing WoW, not when I'm just doing productivity software on my pc.

I've zipped up my minidump and attached it to this post.

I'm running Vista 32 with dual nVidia GeForce 8800 GT cards. My drivers aren't brand-new, but from what I've read on the internets, downloading new drivers doesn't solve this problem.

Missing raids with my posse causes great psychological pain and so I'd be so grateful for any help! Thanks!

Here is your bugcheck for the BSOD.

STOP 0x00000116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR

Usual causes: Video driver, overheating, bad video card, BIOS, Power to card.


To start with, i would download driver sweeper, boot in to safe mode, use driver sweeper, reboot and install the latest driver.
Also, check the cooling vents, make sure they are clear.

Okay! I did everything you suggested. I installed the very newest nVidia drivers.

Only hitch: There was a failure in the nVidia installation process: it failed to install the network connector driver. No internet. Once I figured that out (thanks, nVidia!), I became operational again.

I will see if I'm able to play WoW now without the crash. If the crashing continues, we can move on to the next suspects. Boy, I hope this solved it!
