BSOD after SP1 Update

I have a HP dv6700 running Vista Premium. The pc was riddled with virus'/malware and just wouldn't even start without an issue. So I wiped everything out to do a clean install of windows w/o the disk, just installed using the HP restore. Fast forward to updating all updates went fine until I got to SP1. Either we had a power surge or the PC got unplugged, whatever the case I came back and the computer was completely shut down.

Went to do a restart and got a BSOD. I forget the error code now. I followed steps I found here in regards to creating a Repair Disc which is running 'Startup Repair' and has been running for almost 2 hours now.

I cannot start the pc period. No safe mode, no regular just gives me the BSOD error. Which I will get in a bit. F8, F10 just result in BSOD, running windows repair without the disk results in bsod. So far this is as far as I have gotten with it.

Any ideas? I have searched but still haven't figured out what I can do here, besides throw this computer in the garbage. If I were to purchase Win7 would it clean install over the mess thats on there?

Still attempting repairs. Won't restore. I don't care if I wipe everything out again, as long as it works. So if theres a magic reset button. I'd love to knwo where it is lol.

I read that before but unfortunately I cannot get into the pc at all. It's now getting hung up on the system recovery options and if i try to cancel restart or anything it just restarts.

It was an already installed version of Vista Home Prem. x32 It was running fine until the SP1 got interrupted. Now windows files won't load at all.

Won't even give me the option. Everytime I restart it shows ' Windows Error Recovery' then the option to start normal or try windows repair. When I select start normal it starts to load windows and just hangs at a black screen with

' !! 0xc0000034 !! 252/76208 (_000000000000.cdf-ms)

Either with the repair disc and changing boot order or via my own pcs startup repair just sits 'attempting repairs' I left it for 4 hours and it never did anything.

Okay I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch. But I pressed a bunch of buttons and finally got into HP recovery manager and the factory image recovery. It's at 3% right now. I wish I knew what I pressed or did, this is the first time it has come up.

Also, Rich where abouts in Fairfield County are you? I'm close to Bpt (unfortunately)

I'll report back in 15 minutes, thats the est. time remaining.

Fairfield,
You will lose all your stuff, but you should be back as the way when you bought the computer.

Oh small world! Stratford here. I'm not quite sure how I got to the factory system restore as I had tried many times. I'm fine with losing everything as long as we can use the dang thing again. I appreciate the help, I read many of your other posts in regards to these issues which def. helped me out.

Thanks neighbor!
