BSOD after logon

Hi,

It seem Santa thinks I'm a bad boy because he sent me a very unpleasant Xmas gift. I was surfing on the web when I suddetly got a BSOD. I think my laptop was trying to load a JAVA thingy on one website just before it crashed. Since then, various things happens when I get pass windows logon:

1- BSOD and reboot.
2- Black screen and cursor, no reaction to Ctrl+Alt+Del. If I leave it for a while, I get a BSOD.
3- I get access to my desktop, I can't open anything(if I click, it simply freeze) and then BSOD.

I also sometime get BSOD while login in Safe Mode, but it usually get pass through ok. Weird thing is that I get BSOD when I try to access Control Panel by going through Start / Control Panel, but I'm fine if I use other ways to get to it. Eventually, I also get BSOD after being in Safe Mode for a while, it can be 5 min or 30 min, it seem to be somewhat random.

It's a two and a half years old Gateway laptop with Vista x86. Got it online, on their website, with everything already installed on it and I haven't changed the OS.

Here's what I got from using J.C. Griffith's program. I couldn't get a System health report though... I'm supposed to save it as an HTML file but I can only save it as .msc. Maybe something I'm doing wrong?

Oh and, Merry Xmas!

The reports that you have submitted reveal clues to the cause of your problem. They do not give a definitive answer. The more reports that we receive the more clues are made available improving our chances of finding a solution to your problem. You may have to experience several more BSODs until the final answer is discovered.

Update outdated listed drivers. If I have inadvertently listed any Microsoft Drivers, they can be ignored. If the list is extensive I have included the driver verifier test so that you may determine which drivers are in need of immediate attention.
How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
and here
http://www.edbott.com/weblog/the-vista-master-driver-list/
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper
www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
You can also locate information about your driver using this information
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96442-device-manager-finding-unknown-devices.html
Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done:

Still can't get it work. Here's what I did so far:

-Searched for updates for the 3 Drivers you marked in bold. Couldn't update iaStor.sys and Null.sys. In fact, Intel website can't identify any of my intel drivers and can't tell me which one should be updated. Since my knowledge on the matter is limited, I stop searching for it. Maybe someone can help me? I was able to update SPTD.sys that was also marked in bold but since you told me to remove it, I then deactivated it following Duplexsecure instructions to see if it would change anything. It still installed though, just deactivated.

-I did the SFC Scan. It Found corrupted files but couldn't repair them. I have attached the CBS.log to this reply. Don't know if it will help.

-I Scanned for Virus with Windows Defender and I found 2 severe threats. Got rid of them, but no changes or improvement.

-I used Driver sweeper to remove drivers remnants. All of them were Nvidia. No changes.

-I *think* I also got rid of Daemon Tools... I can't remember doing it but since I can't find it anymore, I suppose I did.

Now, I can't run J.C. Griffith program anymore and that's a shame because there's about twice as much BSOD reports... I got BSOD the last four times I tried. I'll try again after this reply, maybe I'll get lucky.

Will post more after I digest all that you have given. In the meantime
Go to search
type cmd
in cmd type
driverquery
look for sptd
That is important to eliminate.

I got iaStor updated to the latest version, using the link you gave me. Still get BSOD, they don't seem to involve iaStor yet, so I'll have to get a few more to see...

But I don't know how to uninstall SPTD. I tried using the installer from DuplexSecure(that's the only way they tell us to do) but the x86 version says that "this platform is not supported" (I do have x86, so I don't understand), while the x64 seem to *work* but does not recognize any SPTD driver so it obviously don't let me uninstall. The weird thing is that I had to use this same x86 installer to update SPTD before and it worked just fine... Can you tell me another safe way to uninstall it? Will just deleting the driver in Windows/system32/drivers do? (I'm sorry, I really don't know much about this kind of things).

Edit: Could all this be caused by an Hardware malfunction?

Ok uninstall daemon or alcohol 120% or other virtual software. Then look to see if you still have sptd. I showed you how above.
If you do I will tell you how to get rid of it.
Dont think its harware, but cant be sure until we try a few more thing.
With that iastor, do you know how to install an earlier version?

I've finally format c: and reinstalled Windows. There was too much BSOD that I could barely do anything at all. Everything works perfectly now.

Thank you for your hard work and your time.

Thats great. Im glad that you are up and running again. Sometimes, its better to spend some time reinstalling than a lot of time trying to fix the problem.
