There doesn't seem to be any problems here. If you are referring to the Notice, then it is just advisory warning you that any comments posted there will be visible to other forums since that forum is in the public domain.
The thing that is confusing is the title of the thread - Brink :huh:

I got this notice message from some one on the windows live / live mail part of this forum. Basically its telling me I did a boo boo of some sort. All I did was post a message about windows live mail in how one uses the IM/phone thingy. This is really bothering me. What the heck did I do wrong? I didn't do any thing wrong? No it wasn't a PM just a notice at the top of the page of that particular forum. So it looks like a post in the chill out room.

Yep, it's as Dwarf posted. It's just a notice to let you know that you are posting a post that will also be seen in the MS public newsgroup.

OK, thanks Brink and Dwarf. Is there a way to get rid of that notice. The notice pops up in all news groups, live and the other one, I can't think of the name. It's quite bother some. Problem, I've posted before in that forum with no notice before so why now? Who can I contact to find out?

John had place the notice there not to long ago because we both though it was a good idea to let people know that the newsgroup sections were not just being posted in our forum like the Vista Forums section, but were being mirrored (copied) to the MS Public newsgroups as well with the trolls and all there.

There is also a notice that has been added for when a member replies to a old newsgroup thread that must be checked before the post is posted. When forums reply to old newsgroup threads, they show up just as a RE post in the MS public newsgroup without the rest of the thread it was posted in. They do not keep old threads like we forums do. Another reason to quote posts being replied to in the newsgroup sections.

Hope this helps understand why the need for the notice.

I think it's a good idea, especially reminding people to quote the posts when in the newsgroup section. I know, I'm in quite a few newsgroups and it can be quite annoying when suddenly you have a post with an answer and you don't even know what the question was :D

When I first joined these forums, I had no idea that the newsgroups were separate from Vista forums and the trolls ate me alive; I was really disappointed with Vista forums at first. I wish the notice had been there then; oh well, the notice is a good idea.

It's not that bad, you get to know who to avoid, I'm still skipping over the Vista General one it's still to full of trolls yet to be sensible, I remember when XP General was a war zone to start with

I have just had a quick look through the above mentioned forum - not the filtered version as we have here, but the forums themselves - and can honestly say that things do seem to have changed for the better. Although trolls and their ilk certainly still exist, they are no longer as prevalent as they were just a few months ago.
All the same, it still pays to be cautious when replying to posts in the public sector, whether directly or via these forums. Consequently, I remind people reading this thread to take heed of the warning given by these forums when you are posting in the newsgroups section.

Yes, a lot of them can be quite rude and sarcastic. And I've seen them be quite rude to Brink, that I don't like.

I just find it sad that they have nothing better to do with their time. I could care less about their comments to me though. It has zero affect on me.

I agree they are getting better, mind you it's the same with them all when the OS is new and a new set of NG's are created, the trolls come out to play and try to cause havoc.
It will be the same when Windows 7 is launched, there will be new NG's to cover it and they will be full of people who are just out to cause trouble, the other NG's quieten down as the trolls have moved over to the new group.

You only have to look at the WinME General one, there's only a few of us that go there now and it's really just a bunch of friends keeping in touch, in fact I think we're the only ones keeping it alive, I'm sure Microsoft would like to drop it but we keep going back even though we've all moved on to other systems
