bootmgr problem, not so simple :/

Hey guys I have a problem with my laptop.
I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7, but encountered some problems on the install. I lost my original OS vista home basic trying this update.
Now I'm trying to install Vista again, but when I try boot into the disc all I get is 'bootmgr is missing. Press crtl+alt+del to restart'
I've looked through the bootmgr tutorial on this forum but i dont think it will work.

Any suggestions at all would be great

You've tried to re-start, the tutorial 'you don't think it will work'!
Why not give it a try?

You can also try a system restore to recover then take the steps to make sure you have everything you need before upgrading.
