Solved Boot options

I have three:

(1) Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive
(2) Notebook Hard Drive
(3) USB CD/DVD ROM Drive

By default, it is set on #(1). Questions: Pros and Cons for selecting any? And what's the diff between Internal and USB CD/DVD Drives?

Pros - Your machine will automatically boot into any bootable CD or DVD when inserted in the internal CD/DVD drive.

Cons - Your boot time will be slightly slower (Talking 1 or 2 seconds max) due to the machine checking for a boot device in the CD/DVD drive before loading the OS.

Internal and USB will most likely relate to how it is connected to the motherboard. An internal CD/DVD drive will most likely be connected by SATA where as USB will use a USB pin on your Mobo to connect or a USB port on the external case.

I have mine to boot from CD, why/
Twice I had to reimage with Macrium Reflect. It was much easier just to put the Macrium boot CD in the drive. I do not what the extra boot hassle when the computer is in crisis mode.

Hi Richc46- good to see you in here. I hope you're doing well.

If he has created a bootable disc on a USB connected device like a thumb drive, he would set the first boot option in the BIOS to the third option.

Also, if he has a UEFI system, he will have to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS each time he wants to use a bootable disc.

Myself, I'm having a problem creating an image using Macrium but that's the subject of another thread, probably in another forum.

What about Notebook Hard Drive? Pros and cons?

Notebook Hard Drive will be where Vista is installed and personally I would keep it where it is at the moment. Place it too far down the list and you may not be able to boot into Vista.

   Note

If you have a NIC boot option make sure it is set to last otherwise you could end up in a PXE loop where the machine is trying to find a server to boot from

NIC boot is not listed.

There are two other options: Floppy drive and Network adapter...both of which I disabled(I really don't know why). Well, perhaps because I know my laptop has no floppy stuff(my 10 yr old Dell has) and I really could not relate with booting to a WiFi adapter.

So, now I boot to Notebook Hard Drive...and I really don't know why. Shouldn't I?

Network adapter and NIC are the same thing

Yes you should be booting to the hard drive because that is where Vista is located. If you are currently viewing this with Vista then you have booted into your hard drive
