Boot loop - Can't start up Acer laptop - Vista

Would really appreciate help please.
Was using my laptop, everything ok, then shut the lid, to go back to later...usually no problems doing this.... when i went back to it battery had died (this has happened many times in past) so plugged in started up & has been in a boot loop since.
ACER Travelmate 7730 - approx 3 yrs old - Vista Home premium. (not sure 32 or 64)

It starts with the normal Acer screen, then goes to start up choices (as if I have pressed F8), I have tried every option, last good config, safe mode etc, whichever I choose it takes me back to Acer start up screen & then same again.

I have no original Acer Back up/Recovery disc. I do have one someone gave me a year ago, when I had a similar boot problem.
So far:
I have gone in Bios set to start fROM CD/DVD as second option. I F12 & very slowly I can get to Repair or Reinstall. Repair start up will just run forever & do nothing. - Reinstall windows does not work - cmd prompt: I've done Bootrec mbe etc etc, says complete, but makes no change. I can not do cd c: (my hd) is just goes back to x: (dvd/cd). I have tried chkdsk gave up after 3 hours as was on 5% & every file it says is unreadable - SFC/scannow doesnt work - I often get an i/o error & have tried lots of things I have read online for this but none do anything.

I have run out of ideas. Whenever I've had problems before on a PC I can access the c: drive but unable to at all with this problem

Thanks for reading
Jen
