Blue-screening.

Hello, and thanks for your help if you answer.

I am running vista on a Packard Bell PC with a intel core 2 processor with of course, vista. It is 32 bit home premium.

I keep getting the following bluescreen error message:

0x00000101 (0x00000031,00000000,0x8AF48120,0X00000003)

It is always this error message, never any other message.

I can give any more info upon asking, any help appreciated.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum as well. I don't know the problem so I wouldn't know what section to put it in.

Hello sweep04,
Can you go to C: Windows > Minidump, and zip up the files, upload them with your next post and we will take a look at them for you.

The Minidump was inconclusive, so before we go any further, can you confirm that nothing is overclocked and that Vista is up to date, all updates and service packs ?.

Vista is up to date and is at service pack 2 which is the latest I believe.

I have not done anything to over-clock the computer intentionally, but I don't know too much about it either. Would there be any way to check?

Symantec pops up in the results of several of the dump files.
Please do this:
- download a free antivirus program to use while testing (I like Microsoft Security Essentials).
- uninstall your Norton/Symantec product
- run the Norton Removal Tool (free from here: Download and run the Norton Removal Tool )
- install the free antivirus and IMMEDIATELY update it.

Also update these older drivers:
PxHelp20.sys Fri Feb 02 16:23:57 2007
spldr.sys Thu Jun 21 20:29:17 2007
Rtlh86.sys Tue Sep 26 07:20:27 2006
moufiltr.sys Mon Jan 08 20:22:26 2007
CO_Mon.sys Wed Aug 08 17:39:53 2007
int15.sys Mon Jul 02 22:03:24 2007
With the STOP 0x124 being sandwiched in there, I'd suspect that the older drivers are the cause of this.

Here's a summary of the BSOD's:

Yes, but don't reinstall it until you're sure that the BSOD's are gone.
If it's an Internet Security application, I'd think twice about it. We see lot's of issue with Internet Security applications - and it takes a long time to troubleshoot them because the faulting application doesn't easily reveal itself.

My Computer

Also update these older drivers:
PxHelp20.sys Fri Feb 02 16:23:57 2007
spldr.sys Thu Jun 21 20:29:17 2007
Rtlh86.sys Tue Sep 26 07:20:27 2006
moufiltr.sys Mon Jan 08 20:22:26 2007
CO_Mon.sys Wed Aug 08 17:39:53 2007
int15.sys Mon Jul 02 22:03:24 2007

How can I update these?

I am now uninstalling and installing Norton / Security Essentials.

My Computer

To locate the drivers, try this:

- locate the specifications of your system.
- search Google for the driver name (xxx.sys)
- compare the results of the search with the system specs to see what you have.
- Don't worry about the stuff that says it's a virus - that doesn't apply at this stage.
- you can also right click on the driver and select Properties, then click on the Details tab. This may give you the manufacturer's name - which will help locate the program.

Once you determine what device/program has the drivers, visit the manufacturer's website to download the latest version.
If the manufacturer's site doesn't have the latest updates, then visit the PC manufacturer's website for updates.

Don't use the drivers from Windows Update - or from the "update driver software" applet. Those drivers aren't the most updated versions.

Then, if something stumps you, just post back and let us know what the issue is.

PxHelp20.sys - a CD/DVD burning program uses this
Rtlh86.sys - your networking driver

My Computer

Hello all, I am back. Thanks for all previous posts.

I stopped having these errors for a while. Now they have come back. I stopped having them for about a week. But over the holiday period I was on my computer less and just ignored it.

I don't know wether it is by chance or that these drivers actually helped the computer.

I will put up new files with the BSOD like before if requested, hopefully they shed more light on the problem.

I also had another BSOD totally unrelated about a week ago, as soon as I turned on my PC it came to the desktop and it blue-screened instantly almost.

driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

One more thing I totally and stupidly forgot to mention, these BSOD's only happen while I have games running. I only have Call of Duty 2: Modern Warfare, and World of Warcraft on here. But that is the only time a blue-screen occurs.

Thanks for all posts again, past and present.
