Hi everyone
My Advent laptop has been giving me a BSoD for some time now, the error comes up usually when browsing over the net. I have searched for the answer but have found no solution please help. Am not sure if this is related but recently I have switched from using a wireless connection to a wired one, the first time I have done this since I bought the machine.

Hello Gain,
This is the results of your minidump file.
Because this is a Laptop, it kind of limits the hardware diagnosis, unless you are confident enough to go digging around inside your PC.

Did you install any drivers when you went to a hard wired Internet connection, any router drivers, this would seem the best place to start.
I would try it on the wireless setup again and see if this fixes it.

Can you download HiJackThis, run it and post your log.

This is what MS say about your BSOD.

Cause
This bug check is issued if paged memory (or invalid memory) is accessed when the IRQL is too high.
The error that generates this bug check usually occurs after the installation of a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS.
If you encounter bug check 0xA while upgrading to a later version of Windows, this error might be caused by a device driver, a system service, a virus scanner, or a backup tool that is incompatible with the new version.

To resolve an error caused by a faulty device driver, system service, or BIOS
  • Restart your computer.
  • Press F8 at the character-based menu that displays the operating system choices.
  • Select the Last Known Good Configuration option from the Windows Advanced Options menu. This option is most effective when only one driver or service is added at a time.
To resolve an error caused by an incompatible device driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup tool
  • Check the System Log in Event Viewer for error messages that might identify the device or driver that caused the error.
  • Try disabling memory caching of the BIOS.
  • Run the hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer, especially the memory scanner. For details on these procedures, see the owner's manual for your computer.
  • Make sure the latest Service Pack is installed.
So,
Check the System Log in Event Viewer for error messages that might identify the device or driver that caused the error.
Run a memory test, Memtest is about the best, run it overnight, all night, to give it a fair go.
Try the wireless connection instead of the hardwired one and un-install any new drivers.
Try this and post your results, good luck.

Hey Stoney
Thanx a bunch about the Drivers I havent installed any lately I usually just get Windows Updates. I run through the 1st solution you gave and used the Last Known Good Configuration on the menu and so far the machine is working perfectly. I also checked the Event Viewer after my last Blue Screen and all I found was an error saying that the last shut down was unexpected. I also run the Diagnostics tool which found no errors, I wasn't too sure of how to disable the Bios Caching, Ill get some CDs and run the Memtest this week.

The thing I didnt get is that the machine worked perfectly when I took it to work where I use a wireless connection its just at home where I use a wired one. Well anyway thanks a lot and one lat thing should I use Windows Update or not?

My Computer

Yes, i would use Windows Update, but not to update your drivers. Go to the manufacturers site for those, you will get the latest drivers.

Get HJ to fix this, check the box next to it and fix.

O13 - Gopher Prefix

The HJ log is very clean.

On the sidebar, do you have a memory meter of some sort ?, if you do, disable it and see if that makes any difference.

If you get another BSOD, post the dump file.
I hope all this helps in some way, good luck.
