Blue Screen on Win Vista

Hello there,

i have problems with random freezes on my laptop last days. Today I left the system alone with desktop screen and went out for few hours. When back, OS showed me login screen and there was report on crash - Blue Screen. I made some research which led me here.

I took steps described in Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions (see attachment) and here's some additional info:

  • Win Vista Home Premium SP2
  • x86 (32-bit)
  • Original installed OS
  • An OEM version
  • Laptop is 30 months old or so...
  • OS installation is 18 months old
Any help would be appreciated.

KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR (77)
The requested page of kernel data could not be read in. Caused by
bad block in paging file or disk controller error.
In the case when the first arguments is 0 or 1, the stack signature
in the kernel stack was not found. Again, bad hardware.
An I/O status of c000009c (STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR) or
C000016AL (STATUS_DISK_OPERATION_FAILED) normally indicates
the data could not be read from the disk due to a bad
block. Upon reboot autocheck will run and attempt to map out the bad
sector. If the status is C0000185 (STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR) and the paging
file is on a SCSI disk device, then the cabling and termination should be
checked. See the knowledge base article on SCSI termination.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000001, (page was retrieved from disk)
Arg2: 00000000, value found in stack where signature should be
Arg3: 00000000, 0
Arg4: 8bd2fc70, address of signature on kernel stack

Good news and bad news. The good news. The file clearly gives the cause of the BSOD, memory and a driver SPTD.
The bad news, rarely are BSODs solved with one dump. It usually takes a combination of art and science to fix the problem. That being said, I will leave you directions on what actions to take, then post if BSODs return

Download memtest86 and test RAM
www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
Run for 8 passes
If passes try a good stick in each slot for 3 passes
If fails do the same for 8 passes.

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs

Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done:

Thank you richc46,

i've ran sfc scan meanwhile (see attachment), which found and repair some error in mpssvc.dat file. I did some research then and i've found Windows Defender turned off. I tried some advices found on MS support, unfortunately doesn't work. I can't turn it on since there's some, even in SCM nor uninstall or reinstall. I decided to install Spyware Terminator to find and remove possible spyware. It's done and clean.

With Daemon Tools uninstalled, i made
SPTD uninstall and ran memtest86 whole night (8 passes) with no error.

Since this is my business laptop, i have to try how it will work today. Sooner or later i'd need new install of Vistas.

Once again, big thank you for your kind help!
