I am having problems with my computer randomly crashing. It's becoming a pain.

Didnt have a clue what was causing it.

So I decided to:

  • update all my drivers that I could think to update (used device manager to do so).
  • I cleaned my computers inside.
  • Updates my virus scanner - am protected. (Avast)
  • cleaned my registery (I used a downloaded registry cleaner from a computer magazine website, they reviewed it, and i tried it)
  • Disk Defrag used.
Finally found some info when my computer crashed. Went online to find information and got some software that helped me get more info about my problems.

I am not sure if I have given correct information or not - or enough. Please state if I need to give more info.

Thanks everyone for your time.

[1 - Novice] How to ask for help with a BSOD problem - Windows 7 Forums

I have Windows Vista not Windows 7, so posting on the Windows 7 forum wouldnt be helping me or others to much - unless the vista forums doesnt have a similar area?....trying to find one at the moment in time! (if not - will post on the windows 7 forums like suggested)

However -the post you linked - the information in it.

Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
Zip up the copy.

Zip up the copy - how do I do that. Am sorry - but the reason my original uploads are txt files is because I have no idea how I go about making it a zip files.
Not sure if I can zip up a copy at all to be honest.

If yourself or someone else could explain to me please, how to go about doing that - would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time so far.

All have a good morning, evening and night.

Those instructions are for both windows 7 and Vista, you just stay put and you will be helped.

First make a folder and put in your documents. You can put the dump file into that folder.

After the file is in the folder, you can zip it to us.

To get clear instructions, Just type zip files, in help and support, (click the start button and it is on the menu) , you will be given complete instructions. If you have questions or problems, just post your specific question and we will help you.

In addition to the help and support, which you can get by going to the menu, after you hit the Windows start button, bottom left. I have also found this to help you

Going to make myself a coffee - so my mind can process the information properly.

Above I attached as a zip.

Thanks for your help so far.

If more is needed please say.

*edit: when I click to check the files that I uploaded, I cannot see information at all - the folder became a zip - but when you go into it, the files are not..I then tried to archieve the files individually into zip , still happend. could be because I am using winRAR. - looking into*

Hi sergeo and welcome

Your crashes are being caused by hardware. I suspect memory first. You also have drivers that are way too old and need to be updated. the oldest of which is from 1996. see below.

I would
download memtestx86 and run it for 5 passes.
run a system file check
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

update the drivers listed below

If you are overclocking stop
If you have a raid update its driver

1996 - my windows vista has a driver from 1996. Thats a real surprise - and makes me sad that I didnt wait longer and attempt to build my own custom pc.

I will be honest - those driver locations - and how to update them. Am abit lost.

According to my device manager, I dont need any updates - its wrong it seems - very wrong. will try and dig deeper - but some guidance would be appreciated. I am not really technical with computers - just know basic information.

Will download this memory test and run it like suggested. Chances are I will update information tommorow.

Thank you for your help.

Device manager will not tell you if you need updates. It just show problems.

You go to the website of each company that you need drivers and download. It is easy. You will get instrucions when you find the driver on the website.

If you have any problems or questions, I or someone else will be here to help you.

You are very welcome Sergio. Just take your time relax. You are among friends. We are all on your side.

Going to make myself a coffee - so my mind can process the information properly.

Above I attached as a zip.

Thanks for your help so far.

If more is needed please say.

*edit: when I click to check the files that I uploaded, I cannot see information at all - the folder became a zip - but when you go into it, the files are not..I then tried to archieve the files individually into zip

, still happend. could be because I am using winRAR. - looking into*

Hi sergeo and welcome

Your crashes are being caused by hardware. I suspect memory first. You also have drivers that are way too old and need to be updated. the oldest of which is from 1996. see below.

I would
download memtestx86 and run it for 5 passes.
run a system file check
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

update the drivers listed below

If you are overclocking stop
If you have a raid update its driver

Hello again all

I ran the memory test for 5 passes - no problems there.
I ran the system file checker - and it did indeed find corrupt files. Now - I followed it, (when it ended) into some sort of log, but couldnt make much sense. The above, I cannot make much sense of either:

giveio.sys
ACEDRV07.sys
peauth.sys
etc ( them all)

Sorry for being a pain and not really understanding this all.

Segeo

You are not being a pain. We are all friends at the Forum and we help each other.

Run the SFC again a few times. It corrects only one file at a time.

I am running sfc again.

with just this website and my command prompt open - my task manager is showing me using 802mb of memory being used - I only have 1gig - could this be playing any part of my problems.

when its idle - its around 500mb. but vista works differently then xp.

thanks for the replies.

When you first posted, I was able to get the help of the best man for your problem. You have to follow his instructions or the problem will come back. It is good that we are looking into other areas, too, but follow the instructions of zigzag.

To me, most of that is in another language. I want to no what it means (so I can go about updating it all) but

If you are overclocking stop
If you have a raid update its driver

that also doesnt make much sense to me.

I will continue to try and make sense of my driver list. I am still running sfc. will keep running it.

downloaded some updates from packard bell website, so am getting there.

Bottom lin Sergeo, If you do not know what overclocking or raid are, you do not have it. Dont worry about that portion.

The 1996 driver (giveio.sys) is most likely from ImageSurfer software. If you can't locate an update, just uninstall it.

The ACEDRV07.sys is from Helper Driver - Access Level 1a - Protect Software GmbH - which is most likely copy protection for a game, maybe from the Tages copy protection program. FWIW - if there's an illegal copy of a game involved - uninstall it. FYI - we don't help with illegal software.

The RTKVHDA.sys is from your Realtek High Definition Audio Function Driver - the drivers can be downloaded from here: Realtek
Select the Vista, Windows7 Driver(32bits) Driver only (Executable file) about 1/2 way down the list. Here's a direct link to the download: Realtek

As the Blue Screen errors all refer to a corrupted memory pool, I would suggest running Driver Verifier using the following directions. It will cause your system to crash - and hopefully will contain the name of the faulting driver:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.
If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line.

The only games I play is abit of world of warcraft and settlers. (And good old chess ofc - cant beat a good game!) - and all are legit - so I can cross that bit out.

I recently updated my realtek drivers with trying to fix my crashes, so think I can cross that one out (I hope).

the givio.sys will look for an update for it. when I have news will inform you all.

Thank you for your help so far everyone.

Would be lost without you all.

Driver Verifier - willl look at it abit more tommorow - seems abit risky - if all else fails, could do a complete re-install - might get windows 7...then again - have heard of black screens of death with it.
