Blank folders?

I'm running a laptop with Vista Home Premium, and just recently some of my folders like My Computer and other various folders are opening yet show a blank window, like literally blank. There's not even a URL there, just a blank window. I played around with some registry values (which I shouldn't have) and I believe that's the cause of this problem. Also, when i try to delete some of the files inside folders that manage to open before they crash, the delete prompt stalls at 0. Explorer.exe also seems to have multiple holds on single processes.

If you can, please help me get my comp back to shape!

(Ps. Did like 3 system restores and a virus scan with no results)

Try putting in the Vista Disk and running installer. Select repair (or from the main menu im not sure) and let that run. There is probably soemthing wrong with the registry, though your computer may jsut not want to run those.

Have you tried restoring the default locations of the User folders? Otherwise you may have to reinstall Windows if System Restore doesnt work for you.

boot into recovery and reinstall

Okay, after doing a mysterious system restore (didn't know what date it restored to), everything works, but it's still a bit slower than normal. I've also replaced the folders on my Desktop with shortcuts to the folders in my user folder, so hopefully things wont be confusing in the future =] Thanks guys for your help, and I will keep the boot into recovery in mind!

Glad you got it fixed! System restore can be a life saver (Though i never have actually had to use it. mostly i just reinstall.) Keep that disk handy (if you find it, though i think you can request another)
