Black screen when boot

I just came back from a trip and my computer screen was black. I switched it off and restarted it,but it will only boot in safe mode (with networking). When I boot normally, I hear the windows sound of the welcome screen, where I am supposed to input my password, but the screen is black.

I do not have any restore points.

I have run antivirus and malware remover, and the computer seems to be clean (there was some virus / troyan found).

I have an acer extensa, running vista 32.

Kid says that the computer was fine the day before, so it could have been an update in the nigth. However, I cannot see the update history, as windows update doesnot run in safe mode. I have also searched all forums, but still not found any solution.

Can anyone help.

My Computer

I had a laptop presented to me for repair with this very same issue.

Research has indicated that it is a problem with explorer.exe not starting properly. There are loads of options on the internet but regrettably, in my case nothing worked.

Have a look at the solutions in this thread and see if that helps. If not post back.

Good luck.
