black screen after boot

Well my laptop is vista basic compatible from XP. Every time I install Vista basic after a certain update when i boot up my laptop everything runs fine until the os actually coming on, i get the orb then a black screen. Mean while i get the boot up sounds and all. So I press my power button and put the computer to sleep, then i press it again and my computer screen turns on just fine. Please help I love vista and it is killing me that I cant make this work.

Hi mez, can you remember what the update was, that causes this scenario (mabee a graphics driver??) when you upgraded from XP to vista did you source out and install vista compatible drivers for your computers hardware? If you could fill out your syastem specs in the User CP tab at the top of the page this would be of help for us to possibly find a answer or solution
