Belkin/Vista 64 bit

i bought a new laptop (HP dv 6 1050 us) with Vista home 64-bit yesterday and am having issues with wireless internet connection. My Router is Belkin G # F5D7230-4. Every time i am trying watch videos online or downloading software updates, it is not finishing up. video is only playing for a few seconds and then it stops (the streaming stops completely). I don't have this problem when i'm connected directly to the router. surfing is no problem unless i am opening a website with a video, it's slow and then the streaming of the video stops. This is very annoying. can anyone help? should i just buy a new router? is there another solution for this?

Bought a macbook few weeks ago and had the same problem so i brought it back. Now i have the same issue with HP. Please help.

The fact that another laptop with a completely different OS had the exact same weird issue does suggest the router could be at fault. Its wireless circuitry could be having trouble dealing with large volumes of traffic (the commonality between video and updates?), though that's the sort of wild and wacky diagnosis which rightly makes people cringe

What about if you try to download a massive file from somewhere that's neither video nor an update - say several hundred megabytes at least? Does that download also terminate unexpectedly somewhere before it's done? If so, that reinforces the notion that the problem is linked to load, and hence rather likely to be a defective router.

I'd suggest borrowing another router from somewhere as a test first. Plenty of people have old but functional routers collecting dust. Heck, send me a self-addressed cardboard box with sufficient postage, and ...

just my two cents, and i am in no way trying to "blast" a company or product--just merely stating my opinion. i would first, see if you can set up an rma return with belkin. i have did that with belkin two times and haven't had any problems with them (and it didn't hurt me that my job is about two miles from the company, so i personally returned it... anyway). after the second time, i just got a new router. i initially did not have problems with the pc that was hard wired to the router, just the laptops i was trying to connect wirelessly. over time (about 6 months) i would have connection problems with both the hard wired and wireless pc's. i ate my loss and just bought a new router. i'm sure that's not exactly news you want to hear.

thanks for the replies. forgot to mention that i have a work laptop (also HP) and i don't have no problems watching videos, etc. so that makes me wanna believe it's not the router but the new operating system (Mac, Vista) that is not compatible with the router. my work laptop has windows XP Pro and it never gave me any problems.
