Battlefield 2142

I just recently bought the game and installed it, when I went to go run it my entire computer locks up and has to be hard booted. Looking on forums I ran it as administrator and also in Windows XP SP2 compatibly mode. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem and my computer still locks up and requires a hard boot. I do not even get into the game before this happens. The screen stays at the desktop frozen. Another program I have also mimics this, Autodesk Inventor. Not sure if they are related but my teacher said that Vista 64bit seems to always be the problem. I would like to get both of these programs running, especially Battlefield 2142, but my computer seems to be fighting me.

Many other games work, it is the deluxe edition, patched till 1.50.

System specs:
Case: Antec 900
OS: Vista Home Premium 64Bit
Processor: Intel 2.4GHz quad core
Videocard: ATI HD4870 1GB
RAM: 4GB
Hard drive: 500GB
Pwr sup: 550W

You may want to try compatibility mode...

The Problem is I don't get the whole the program has stopped working nonsense. When I attempt to start the game, I get maybe 10 sec of loading time were nothing happens and then my whole entire computer ceases to work, all I see is my mouse (unmovable) and my desktop. I am running it in Compatibility mode, did run it during install, am running with administrator, did the Patch 1.50 Full, not incremental. (also have the Deluxe edition of Battlefield 2142 if that matters)

Autodesk is known to have issues with graphics card drivers and ironically DOT Net Framework...I use Solidworks and the game and I have had the same issues as you are having here. Here's what I did to get it to work.

1. Uninstall the program and delete all of its data from the registry(i know its not cool but it makes sure its gone)
2. Uninstall Dot net Framework
3. Unistall graphics drivers and get most recent graphics card drivers and software. I have an ATI Radeon HD3200 and I needed the most recent driver to work.
4. Restart the pc.
5. Install your game and all patches.
6. Attempt to run game at this point...should work without an issue.
7. Reinstall Dot Net Framework and your back in business.

Hope this helps...

Well, Blackhawk 7188, I am sorry to report that your fix did not solve the problem. Without .net framework it still gives me the same result. I do appreciate the genuine help.

I am thinking that possibly reformatting my hard drive (wiping it clean) and starting a new might help.

I'll give this a shot and report back with either my success or painful failure

Really am gonna hate reinstalling all my programs, but I really want my comp to use things like Autodesk Inventor, so I guess I'll have to suck it up.

I am sorry to hear that...hope everything works out. I got a new HDD last week and reinstalled my OS and programs and SolidWorks was a pain so I know what you mean. Hope for the best but expect the worst is the best way of putting it. Good luck.
