I am curious as to why I have been banned from Demonoid.com. I use demonoid for little know softwares and such and have NEVER received a warning or anything.

I try to login yesterday and all i get is a white screen. From what i have read this means you have been banned.

I am wondering if another demonoid user could go to Demonoid.com - User log in and check if i have any warnings or anything.

NOTE - This will not end up with me requesting an invite or anything i just want to know IF i have any warnings.

New trojans block access to torrent sites

Anti-virus vendor Sophos is reporting that a new trojan horse is attempting to block access to Mininova, the Pirate Bay and Suprbay. The trojan, named Troj/Qhost-AC by Sophos, is changing the hosts file on infected Windows machines to redirect users to the local IP address 127.0.0.1. It also adds the comment "EDIT:Bad word" to that file.

From the Sophoslab blog:

"While inserting the comments “EDIT:Bad word” into the HOSTS file is probably not a nice thing to say, it is definitely quite unusual to see a Trojan do nothing else except to deny the infected machine access to P2P websites."

Conspiracy theorists will probably argue that this might be a virus written by or on behalf of the entertainment industry, but I think it's much more likely that a user of a competing torrent site is behind this. Why else would the virus include Suprbay, but fail to mention other much more popular sites?

Still, one shouldn't dismiss this as a silly grudge against the Pirate Bay. Qhost-AC seems to be based on a similar trojan that blocks access to security websites, and Threatexpert.com is reporting that another incarnation of the virus is not only blocking access to torrent sites, but also opening pop-up windows for rogue security software and downloading further malicious code form the Internet.

hmmm is this simply not just a case of you didn't seed back what you leached?
8 warnings sounds to me like 8 admins/moderators have reported you for a hit and run
in what case just simply seed back till 1.1 and im also sure even though you have been banned you should still be able to view the T&C of the site to reference back on the reason for a ban

8 WARNINGS!!

I think that my account has been hacked, failing that some funky stuff is going on.

I seeded back like 8 GB and downloaded about 1.5 GB.

Demonoid doesn't enforce ratio's anyway.

Bugger, now i have to either get an invite or play the monthly game of checking for open registrations! :(

Sounds like the MPAA and RIAA are getting into the virus industry.

Funny because Demonoid isn't blocked nor is Torrent-Damage and i think they would be more important targets.

Do they work it out on a per torrent basis?

I.E. You upload a 1GB torrent six times (so your uploads are @ 6GB and DL @ 1GB) so you have a ratio of 6. You then download 5GB of something else and don't upload any for this particular torrent. You still have a ratio better than 1, 1.2 to be exact.
