Automatic backup worked fine until December 26 (daily). Since that date it has failed. T'he error code is as follows

Catastrophic Failure, 0x8000FFFF. Also, check disk will not work.

Any ideas?

I looked up that error in the support site: Search The Knowledge Base

But don't see anything specifically for Vista. I suspect is has something to do with resource usage - Have you installed any new components lately who's drivers might be conflicting with something??

Thanks for the help. I am not expert enough to check all the things in the second post. I found another post that might help me. Can you tell me how I can check to see if the Microsoft Shadow Copy Provider is enabled?

Thanks, for your help. I think a complete reinstall will solve the problem. I just do not want to take the time to do this. If you can think of anything else or another forum, I would appreciate it greatly.

It might help others diagnose the problem if we knew what is your backup destination? Is it an external hard drive; is it DVD's...some people have problems when they try to backup to the Recovery partition on their hard drive which is a no-no -- in my system, the main hard drive is C: and the Recovery partition is D: -- my backup destination is an external hard drive letter K:

Let us know what your situation is.
