Did you have to use an alternate HP driver for that? If you did, you might have forgotten to change which port it was using. Either that, or you plugged it in before installing the driver.

I had a similar problem with my deskjet 3420 (though I wasn't networking it).

alright this is what i did...i installed the hp full feature (i guess non-network) vista support driver from the hp site...and plugged in my printer to both computers...which installed it in the usb001...i guess i need to config my ports but don't know which options...can u please explain it...because i tried various ports but nothing...

i had a networking issue
i have two computers one running vista 64 and the older one running vista 32..i got 1 hp psc 2355 printer and downloaded the latest vista full support feature for this printer from the hp site but it said (NO network support) i'm guessing this shouldnt matter when using a wired BEFSR 41 v.4.2 linksys router..the printer seems to show up on the network but they are both configured to the usb001 port..the printers work when i connect them to each computer individually. im guessing something's wrong with the port config...the internet seems to be working on both computers though..so i dont know..firewalls disarmed and enabled printer sharing and all on both comps

I'm assuming your computers can "talk" to each other. Here's what I'd do:
1) Install the printer on one computer (basically, connect to one of them individually).
2) Turn on Printer Sharing (In the Sharing tab of the properties menu). Give it a name you'll know. (Note: You'll have to share that specific printer.)
3) On the other computer, add a network computer. You should be able to find the name of the printer you created in the other spot.

This should let you use the printer on both computers. The downside is that to print from the non-connected computer, you'll have to turn on the connected one.

There may be a better solution, but this should be workable until someone can tell you a more appropriate one.

Well, I guess that "No Network Support" thing got you. The good news is that printers are basically cheap, if you really need a new one. It's the ink that gets you.
