AVG does not test "locked files".

Currently running a virus scan after a recent malware report (it was removed safely and normally), AVG has now come up with some locked files. I'm worried since the malware may have allowed more viruses to come through. What should I do now?

Most of these files are normally Recycle Bin files, AppData, Program Data etc.

Hello Peter Hurry and welcome to the forums

There are much better anti-virus programs out there than AVG so I would recommend that you change to Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and Malwarebytes' Anti Malware (MBAM).

Remove AVG with the removal tool: AVG - Download tools

Note   Note
You will need to select the appropriate tool to remove your version of AVG because I don't know what you have installed.

MSE & MBAM

Download and install MSE from here: Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials
and MBAM from here: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

Run a FULL scan with both of those and attach the MBAM log with your next post for me ot analyse.

That should give you sufficient protection so now lets clean up anything that shouldn't be on your system :)

HijackThis

Download HijackThis from here: HijackThis - Trend Micro USA
And run a scan and attach the log with your next post please

CKScanner:

  • Please download CKScanner from here to your Desktop.
Make sure that CKScanner.exe is on the your Desktop before running the application!

  • Double-click on CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
  • After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
  • A message box will verify the file saved
  • Double-click on the CKFiles.txt icon on your Desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.
