Hi:

I was reading about an application that comes with Vista,that make a copy of the files that the user saves,this copy is saved by AutoVer in some part of the hard drive, is like a shadowed copy of the file the user is saving

Hi Papirin,

Only thing I know like that is system restore. If enabled, it will make a restore point at startup and once daily. I believe it also makes a restore point before installing drivers or software, but not positive. You can check task scheduler to see what triggers are set (in task scheduler, click on Library on the left/microsoft/windows/system restore). You can also create a manual restore point. You can then use this program to look for lost files. http://www.shadowexplorer.com/documentation/manual.html
Saved me once, but a restore point must have been created since the file was saved. Also, if you save your files to a partition other than C:, make sure that it is part of the restore point. Control Panel/Backup & Restore/Create a restore point or change settings. One drawback to having all of your files in the restore point is that if you do a restore to a previous point to try and fix something, it will restore all of your personal files to that point (if I understand it correctly). Small free application automatically creates copies of files that works with the user.

Every time a computer user clicks on the button with the store's program that works, the program strives to create a dual carriageway copy elsewhere on your hard drive.


Windows Vista has a clever so-called "shadow copy". Every time a file is overwritten, such as when a document is edited and stored again, the role seeks to store a blind copy of the file in question. Clicking the button Right-click the file it is possible to restore previous versions instantly.

Such an alternative is not present for users of Windows XP or earlier versions of Windows. The solution can be a highly sophisticated application, although free, so-called dual carriageway.

The program strives to create a dual carriageway automated backup file every time it is changed.

The small program monitors only the directories / folders that the user wants to monitor itself, and unlike the copies of Windows Vista, they can be stored where the user wants, such as an external hard drive, network drive or memory Flash. That way, if the computer suffers a breakdown, the files are protected elsewhere.

It is also possible for the user determine when the files should be deleted permanently, if your intention is to remove them at some point. For example, they can program are erased after 90 days, or stored in a compressed file, or simply that nothing happens to them. The user decides and implements the programme such instructions.

Whenever the user clicks on the button with the store's program that works, highways creates a copy in another place determined by the user himself. The copy has the same name as the original but also includes a "suffix" numerical such as midocumento.doc.080324123301.doc. The figure in question indicates year, month, day, hour, minutes and seconds. Thus the list of files is easily classifiable in Windows Explorer.

Oh yea! I remember reading something about that a couple months ago. Best as I can remember it was a feature of Ultimate and maybe Business Editions. I have premium, so don't have it. IT was on the right click menu if I remember right (I'm gettin' old and the memory isn't what it used to be LOL. Thanks for the memory jolt. I didn't know of any download to accomplish this. Thanks.

I clicked on the link in the article 'AutoVer 1.2' and took me right to it at Download.com. Just downloaded and tried it out. I tried a test with notepad. Not exactly what I read about, but seems to work slick. Nice to have a no hassel backup of important files in between major backups. I like that you can set it to delete backups after x number of days. You might suggest it to the 'free software list for vista' thread. Thanks again.
