Autoexec.nt

When installing a download I keep getting a window alerting me that c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt 16b can not be found and application will abort. I 've read that if I were using XP (I've got Vista Home Prem) there are ways to repair the file by copying it from a repair section and pasting it ti i386. Trouble is when they tell you to go to find the "clean" file I can't find it in the Vista system because there doesn't appear to be comparable folder/files name. Apparently it has something to do with InstallShield (I think) which is 16 bit. Any help appreciated.

Hi Harry,

Depends how old that application really is? It would be 16bit if it was pre-windows2000 era installer/application but everything after was all 32bit...

The Autoexec.nt file has been long gone from Windows (think Windows 4 aka NT)...Since it was before XP`s time and knowing what it does I think you can create a blank autoexec.nt file that will allow you to "workaround" that installer error without any problems ;)

Hi Harry
Welcome to the forum.
What dmex is trying to say is that most 16bit application will no longer work on 32 bit systems and that is the reason you're getting error message about missing file

Sorry dmex
I felt that Harry needed simpler explanation
