Well...it's probably going to depend.

Typically, though, the Fatal1ty will be better. It will lift sound processing from your CPU, which could actually give you a frame-rate boost in games. It's also going to give you a little bit of sound memory to play with, which will reduce load on your RAM.

If you've got the money to throw at a Fatal1ty Pro, I assume you're doing something pretty special with it. In that case, you probably already see a failing with your onboard sound. The Fatal1ty is definitely going to help you out; they couldn't charge that much for a soundcard if it wasn't a boost.

Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro
Its waste of money,its scrap,its #$$%^&&**
I bought it before 1 month,i tried every trick,adjustment
and driver in every os,nothing!!
The windows start navigation doesnt work, the sound in many games was terrible,a strange sound avery time i start my pc etc etc.
I contact many times with creative end the answer:we dont have in mind to create a new driver for now.
So... i gave 170 euro and i use the onboard sound card of my ga-p35-ds4 and IS BETTER!!

Audiotrak makes decent cards. Used to have them at compusa before they closed up the stores.

the Pro cards from creative..the emu line are also excellent audio cards. If youre going to spend close to 200 for an audio card..dont go to microcenter..shop at guitarcenter or sweet water..youll thank me..its wierd to use a pro audio crad, but the sound quality and stable drivers are there.

I disagree with dr.funk...
I just rebuild my pc.
Now i have mobo GA-X38-DS4 compine with logitech speakers (stereo and woofer)
The sound is perfect with the new driver and software you can adjust everything.
Music, movies and games have proper sound now.
So my huble opinion is...the newest mobos have everything onboard,no need to by external sound card.

Re: Audio choice

I agree with Dr.Funk. A semi-pro or pro soundcard will resolve a lot of issues as long as it has the Vista driver compatibility. The sound quality will be good, noise will be low, and you'll take off some CPU load. Also, if you decide to get into home recording, you might not have to upgrade again.

I recommend the M-Audio Audiophile 2496, with ASIO settings and the Vista driver (from the M-Audio website).

My Computer

I also agree with Dr. Funk! QUALITY soundcards are always better than onboard.
