Assassin's Creed on Vista x64 ?

Hi,

When I try to install Assassin's Creed, I get this error:
attachment.php

I've contacted Ubisoft support, but they don't seem to be able to help.
Is there a workaround for this error ? I've already tried installing it on a computer with Windows XP Pro x86, a cmd just popped up with no text and closed again.

Try running the installation manually. The demo file is probably an autostart file and there may be a way around it. Look at the contents of your autostart file.
Take a screen shot of the cd file open. Take a screen shot of the files inside the root directory of the disk. I dont think this is a virus.

Surely VIRUS.

I can't find a reason for it to be a virus, when it's a retail DVD.

Try running the installation manually. The demo file is probably an autostart file and there may be a way around it. Look at the contents of your autostart file.
Take a screen shot of the cd file open. Take a screen shot of the files inside the root directory of the disk. I dont think this is a virus.

I've already tried running setup.exe.

Also, here is your screenshot:

Yours has the same file listings as mine does, with the exception of the setup.exe file - mine shows the InstallShield installer icon and has a Windows UAC Shield icon on it...

Try taking it back for a replacement. If johns has different file listings it may be a slightly older version of the disk. Yours has a demoshield while johns has an installshield.

Hmmm - now that you mention it I haven't played it since getting my widescreen monitors - but in my old 19" CRTs (non Widescreen) I had subtitles just fine - and AFAICT that should have been 4:3

Sometimes DEP (Data Execution Prevention) prevents you from installing software which could potentially harm your Windows OS.
-----------------------
To disable it:
Type or paste this in CMD:
bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOff
Restart
----------------------
To enable it again:
Type or paste this in CMD:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn
Restart
----------------------
To verify the status of DEP:
Type or paste this in CMD:
wmic OS Get DataExecutionPrevention_SupportPolicy
0 = AlwaysOff - DEP is disabled for all processes.
1 = AlwaysOn - DEP is enabled for all processes.
2 = OptIn - DEP is enabled for only Windows system components and services have DEP applied. Default setting.
3 = OptOut - DEP is enabled for all processes. Administrators can manually create a list of specific applications which do not have DEP applied.

PS: Only disable DEP if you are absolutely sure it is safe to install the application.

PS2: This may or may not work.

I've played AC on x64 many times with no problems other than the occasional lag due to my epic failing rig. Contact Ubisoft if you want the best answer to your problem.

Naw, I'm starting to think he's got a version that has Starforce copy protection, and that to my knowledge Starforce won't even install on Windows Vista, and is known to cause some weird problems with one's system.

A few years ago, UBISOFT caught so much grief over what Starforce was doing to people's system, and was on the verge of a class action lawsuit, that for North America at least, they won't even use Starforce copy protection.

I would definitely contact UBISOFT and have it out with them.

That's very odd because the game has native widescreen support. You sure you just didn't miss an ingame video setting?

**edit**

Although, it does seem that the game has problems with 1680x1050.
