As others before me...Vista lag problems

I got this nice new computer for christmas to replace our old crappy laptop
but when i game, periodically it will freeze the game for no particular reason
this happens on all the online games i play
such as: counter-strike(and source), Starcraft, warrock, soldier front, and others

i know for a fact that it is not my internet is not the problem
it is very good comcast high speed and i used the same modem on the laptop, where it worked smoothly

plus it is not a memory problem. for not only does it have 4 GB of memory, it still lags even when i close all programs, including windows live and AVG in the bottom bar.

i can really only assume it is a problem with vista

its sad though, i knew xp like the back of my hand but with vista im near clueless XD

I must be some kind of Vista problem...

Doubtful. I run vista just fine on multiple computers,
never have any problems at all besides a sidebar bug where my icons move around.

Both of you should post your system specs.

No games really use more than 2 gbs of ram. The extra ram is still useful for loading other apps, and running anti-virus ect though.

Doubtful, post system specs please.

All I can say is, make sure your drivers for audio, video and Monitor are up to date, more so EpicNova, that Generic PnP Monitor indicates you are using the std vista driver. Many issues are to be had with non specific drivers, more so in Vista x64 and it has a lot to do with Gaming.

Aside from that, all I can think is that your GPU or CPU are getting hot, have you check the temps you are getting while doing some heavy gaming or inmediately after the problems arise? What brand of PSU do you have?

well i mean this thing is BIG, and it stays cool, only getting warm in the back(warm not very hot at all)

and it always does it, whether the comp just started up, or if its been on for a long time

and ill check for updates on the drivers

::EDIT::
all up to date
and i dont get how to find the PSU, unless its just intel or dell
and also to any1 else who cares, specs are in my profile, or at least it should be

The driver for your monitor can not be up to date... I base this on the system specs you showed in your last thread.

It shouldn't say Generic PnP Monitor, instead, it should read the name brand of your LCD... ie: Acer AL2216AWD Monitor.

I'm not an expert by any means but AVG is a very intrusive and cpu intensive program,AVG 8 that is.It is so bad that I finally uninstalled it,there is a fix but I found it to be just too much trouble.Closing AVG does not solve the problem as a large part of it is running still in the background.

I can attest to this. AVG caused me lag in games back in v7. Shutting it down never solved the problem, uninstalling it did.

ill be sure to try this once i get home, but if it the problem, whats a good free antivirus i can use?

are you wireless? are you just simply lagging out? Does it happen every 60 seconds? If it does i can help...........but it'll cost ya ;) ;) seriously though Vista Anti-Lag Software Informer: Latest version download, news and info about this Codecase.de program.

its Vista scanning for new networks , it lags you out if your wireless , run VAL and all will be fine , you could turn the service off in XP and stop it happening but if you turn it off in Vista it brings your network down with it , the sevice in Vista is called WLAN Autoconfig

Sorry if your problem lies elsewhere :P
