You've heard of taking portable apps on your USB flash drive, right? Old school, right? But have you ever heard of taking your data AND your apps? And putting them together in a big, easy to use package?
That's what I'm gonna show you to do.
2. Run the PortableApps.com setup, and install the platform or suite to a folder on your USB flash drive.
2. Go back to www.portableapps.com, and download the portable apps you want. I would recommend:
4. Once you have installed all your apps, you can start copying your files. First, go to your Documents folder, press ctrl-A, then press ctrl-C. Then, go to where you installed PortableApps.com, and then go to the Documents folder there. Once you are there, press ctrl-V, and your files are copied.
You now have a portable workspace!
Now... You might be thinking: "Why can't I just bring my laptop wherever I go? It will give the me the same results, anyway."
Why? Because if you know that there is a computer at your destination, you don't need to carry the extra load of a laptop. Instead, you can just carry your USB flash drive in your pocket. That saves a LOT of work.
What do you think? :D
That's what I'm gonna show you to do.
1. Click here, and download the PortableApps.com platform only. However, if you feel that the apps included in the suite are all great, you can save yourself some time and download the suite, then add more apps (if you want to).
2. Run the PortableApps.com setup, and install the platform or suite to a folder on your USB flash drive.
2. Go back to www.portableapps.com, and download the portable apps you want. I would recommend:
- Firefox Portable (for Internet browsing)
- Thunderbird Portable (for email)
- Sunbird Portable (for calendars and schedules)
- Pidgin Portable (for IM)
- OpenOffice.org Portable (for editing your documents)
- VLC Player (for DVDs, videos, and music)
- Mines-Perfect Portable (for entertainment)
4. Once you have installed all your apps, you can start copying your files. First, go to your Documents folder, press ctrl-A, then press ctrl-C. Then, go to where you installed PortableApps.com, and then go to the Documents folder there. Once you are there, press ctrl-V, and your files are copied.
