I think your best bet would be to completely remove iTunes and QuickTime, and so that you can still play the odd QuickTime video you need to, install QuickTime Alternative. Follow all of these instruction. If you get stuck at any point, just ask for help before continuing. I know there are a lot of computer restarts, but you will be better off for it, if you do them all:
Press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue.
Go past the UAC prompt if necessary.
Type appwiz.cpl and press enter.
Uninstall all of the following (if they exist):
iTunes
iPhone Configuration Utility
QuickTime
Safari (but only if you want to remove it)
Apple Application Support
Apple Mobile Device Support
Apple Software Update
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from here. Additional details can be found here, but you won't need to look at them.
Uninstall anything in the previous list that still exists, and then close the program.
Restart your computer.
Download and install iTunes (which includes QuickTime) here. Make sure you get the correct 32 or 64 bit version, if you need help, ask.
Restart your computer.
Uninstall ONLY QuickTime from appwiz.cpl again, and then from the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility if it still exists, but ONLY QuickTime this time.
Restart your computer.
Download QuickTime Alternative from here. More details are here, but again, you will not need to view them.
Restart your computer.
Done! Hopefully that should fix the problem, and still allow you to use iTunes and view QuickTime movies on those rare occasions when you need to.
